Juvenile Bald Eagle

juvenile bald eagle

On my way to hockey one morning I saw a juvenile bald eagle perched in a tree overlooking a lake near our house. Though the lake was frozen over he appeared to be patiently waiting for his chance to do some fishing. It was an amazing sight to see such a huge bird. He seemed bigger than me, and strong too. I felt he might have been able to pick me up and carry me away.

Bald eagles were a very rare sight in our area until recently. Now the eagle population is growing so we might see them more regularly. This one watched me cautiously approach and then decided to sail into the air. The branch and tree shook as he launched and swayed for some time afterward. The eagle glided and soared like a kite, reaching the other side of the lake in just a few seconds. I'm glad he decided to not carry me over there or I would have been very late for my hockey game!
