Pair Of Young Deer On My Doorstep

At my home in the wilderness wildlife often comes right up to our front door. I've seen turtles, salamanders, snakes, skinks, chipmunks, groundhogs, and turkeys at my doorstep. Sometimes the curious creatures get inside too! This time a pair of young deer showed up on the doorstep. It would have been fun if they had come inside like the chipmunk kept doing in the summer. Could you imagine a couple young deer running around in your house? I bet they would sleep in my room for the night if I put a nice blanket down on the floor for them. But, I wasn't allowed to let them in so I watched from the windows instead.

The deer dug in snow looking for greens to feed on. They circled close to our house so I'm pretty sure they were looking for any way to get inside to see my room. I watched them closely to see what they'd do, and at the same time Dad watched me closely to see what I'd do. He noticed every time I reached for the doorknob to let the deer in.

Dad explained why it is important to let wildlife stay outdoors so I learned a valuable lesson: Around here, the only way to sneak deer into the house is to do it when nobody is watching me so closely! Dad said that will never happen. I told him, "Oh yea, just watch me!"
