The activities I'm involved in with my friends and brothers takes us to interesting places all over Muskoka. Hockey and baseball games take us to many small towns in the area, fishing and hiking shows us the great outdoors, our homeschool group goes on interesting excursions, and we do fun activities, adventures and outings with our special club called "Boundless Boys". On all those travels we discover many new interesting things. We always bring cameras to photograph our activities, sports, nature and the landscape but the photos here show some of the buildings we see too.
Just getting anywhere during winter in Muskoka can be an adventure in itself! Since we live in the wilderness we first have to travel miles of snowy back roads before reaching any of the main roads leading to local small towns. I really like this hilly stretch of road near our house. I call it "the ups and downs" of living out here.
On one of our trips we saw a nice scene on a snowy river. Places like this make it feel like we've traveled back in time to live inside an old-fashioned Christmas card.
We saw the sun beaming down over a lakefront cottage with a frozen waterfront. I can imagine this place being a lot of fun for skating in winter, and nice for fishing and swimming in summer.
On mild days at the end of winter tremendous fogs can rise up from the snow, specially on lakes. We stood on one of our favorite fishing docks in fog so thick that we couldn't see any part of the lake. It had been completely swallowed up in a cloud. Not only was the lake gone, we could barely see the boathouse next to us too.
At another one of our favorite fishing spots I could see a house on a frozen lake. At a place like this you could skate for miles when the ice is in good shape.
I once spotted part of a Muskoka church rooftop that looked very much like the face of a cat! I've decided it might have been a Catolic church…or perhaps Purrsbyterian.
On another day we discovered what we call "The Granite Church Among the Cedars". The boys and I had to investigate this one up close.
Some days just making it home from an adventure is an adventure in itself. This little farm on a snow covered road is a few minutes from our house. After a long slow drive in deep snow and a blinding blizzard we've almost made it home!
This part of the country road is the final part of our journey home. Just a few more miles to go!
We made it home!
There's no time to rest after all that adventuring. Boundless Boys have boundless energy and are expected to use it to help clear snow off the driveway!
