Muskoka Steamships at Night

Muskoka steamships at night

I visited the Gravenhurst wharf at night and enjoyed seeing the colorful glow of the steamships. The RMS Segwun, in foreground, was built in 1887 and is the oldest steam powered vessel still in use in North America. The "RMS" stands for "Royal Mail Ship". The RMS designation began in 1840 and included over two-hundred Royal Mail Ships covering mail routes all over the globe. Today only three remain in the world, the RMS Segwun being one of them.

I don't think the Segwun still carries mail but summer visitors can enjoy a steamship tour of Lake Muskoka. At this time of year I am just happy to see the ships glowing at the docks, warming up cold winter nights.
