Ice Waterfalls

frozen waterfall ice curtain

At this time of year in Muskoka it is possible to see many interesting natural ice formations flowing over rock. Below is a small collection of some of the ice features found around my home. The ice structures vary tremendously in size. They can be impressively large and dramatic, and others subtle and delicate. Some appear to be powerful waterfalls frozen in place, others look like candle wax drippings, and some like ice curtains draped over stone.

In some of the pictures you can get a good look at our local granite-gneiss stone, and it's typical banding patterns, described in a recent post (Ice and Gneiss).
