I took my car out for a spin, because every once in a while it's good to turn over the engine and keep the battery charged up. But when I took it for a spin that's as far as I got! Peddling hard and fast got the wheels spinning nicely, but the car wouldn't go anywhere. I need snow tires!
When I get snow tires I'm going to attach a big old snow shovel to the front bumper of my car to turn it into a snow plow! Then I'll be able to help dig out our driveway. When I'm finished clearing the driveway I'll help clear our country roads too. And next my snow plow will help clear driveways for neighbors as well. If everyone paid me just one dollar to plow their driveway I'd easily be able to afford those snow tires.
I ran the foolproof business plan by dad while he shoveled snow off our paths. He'd been asking me to help all morning so it was the perfect time to show him how eager I am to take on the big job of clearing snow. For some strange reason he seemed most puzzled about why I just stood there talking about making a snow plow instead doing any digging.
I figured dad wasn't really listening to me present my great idea until he said "when it comes to Otter schemes I've learned to be a most cautious investor". I felt relieved to know he'd being paying close attention all along. Dad said he first has to perform the due diligence required of all little Otter big ideas, then pointed to my shovel and said start diggin'!
Boy we dug a lot of snow together that day! The pile we made was huge! The strange thing is, when we were done I couldn't find my car. Dad told me not to worry about it, the car would show up again in April.
So, the launch of my snow plow business is delayed until sometime after Easter. That's OK. I really have a lot of sledding to catch up on at this time of year anyway and won't have time to snow plow driveways until the Spring.
